The MISP (child-to-child massage) Program has been developed as an inclusive whole school strategy for reducing children’s stress levels, aggression and bullying.  The program is a well-structured yet simple program incorporating touch and movement using stories and rhymes.

Participating children become calmer and more confident, and their aggressive and bullying behaviour is greatly reduced.

The MISP is divided into two main aspects:

  • Basic routine consists of a series of simple movements that evoke images, thereby engaging the child’s natural faculty of imagination.  Children are taught the same basic routine over clothes on each other’s back, shoulders, arms and face.

  • The second basic consists of encouraging the integration of touch and movement into all school subjects

Research has shown that:

  • Positive touch releases hormones in the brain that calm the child while helping them to become alert and ready to learn, and

  • Children with ADHD demonstrate a marked rise in concentration and improved motor skills
